Portable bag closer sewing machines (such as the G-TEK BC series) operate in the harshest environments: grain mandis, cement packing plants, flour mills, chemical plants, and fertilizer units. Abrasive dust, moisture, and continuous duty cycles can cause premature wear if routine maintenance is neglected.
Following this daily 3-minute care protocol ensures dependable operation and eliminates costly packing line downtime.
1. Daily Lubrication via Built-in Pump
The most important feature of quality bag closers is the integrated manual oil lubrication pump.
- Fill the oil reservoir daily with ISO VG 32 or white mineral sewing oil.
- Before starting each work shift, press the oil pump button 3 to 4 times. This feeds fresh lubricant directly into the eccentric main shaft bearings, connecting rods, and looper linkages.
- Add 1-2 drops manually into the needle bar bush ports.
2. Clearing Dust from Feed Dogs & Looper Race
Flour, grain hulls, and HDPE tape fragments pack tightly beneath the feed dog and around the single-thread chainstitch looper.
- Blow out debris with compressed air or use a stiff bristle brush twice daily.
- Packed dirt prevents the feed dog from gripping tough woven bags, causing uneven stitch spacing and stitch jamming.
3. Needle Care (System DNx1 / UY 143 GS)
Bag closer needles endure high puncture resistance when closing thick multi-wall paper or heavy jute sacks.
- Replace the needle immediately if the tip is dull or bent. A blunt needle overworks the 220V electric motor, causing overheating.
- Ensure the long thread groove on the needle faces directly toward the operator when tightening the needle clamp screw.
4. Adjusting the Mechanical Thread Cutter
The integrated guillotine thread knife automatically severs the chainstitch at the bag edge.
- If the knife tears the thread rather than cutting it cleanly, adjust the spring tension screw on the stationary blade or hone the cutting edge.
