Regular maintenance and timely replacement of worn parts ensures smooth sewing, prevents fabric puckering, and extends the lifespan of your machine.
Daily and Weekly Maintenance Checklist
1. Lint Cleaning: Always remove the needle plate and clean lint accumulated around feed dogs and bobbin race using a soft bristle brush.
2. Proper Lubrication: Use genuine high-grade sewing machine oil. Apply 1-2 drops to the hook race and moving joints.
3. Needle Inspection: Replace needles every 8-10 sewing hours or immediately if bent or burred. A damaged needle causes skipped stitches and pulls fabric threads.
Common Parts That Need Regular Replacement
- Needles: Schmetz DBx1, DPx5, or DPx35LR depending on machine model.
- Bobbin & Bobbin Case: Check for tension spring wear or burrs that catch thread.
- Feed Dogs & Needle Plates: Replace if teeth are blunted or needle hole is scarred by needle hits.
- Presser Feet: Choose the right foot (Teflon for leather, piping foot for cording, zipper foot for neat closures).
